Roger Van Damme Elected World's Best Pastry Chef
Belgium-based pastry chef with Dutch roots, Roger Van Damme, has been hailed as the best pastry chef in the world during The Best Chef Awards 2017, held in Warsaw on Wednesday 25 October.
The Best Chef Awards is a project of TBC MediaCorp, which composes a top 300 of the best chefs worldwide on a yearly basis, based on the criteria of innovative techniques and artistic presentations. In this list, Roger made it to the 68th place, with his Antwerp-based lunch-lounge Het Gebaar, which is internationally renowned for its refined desserts. The Spanish Joan Roca tops the list, followed on a few places below by other Belgian chefs like Peter Goossens (restaurant Hof van Cleve), Sang Hoon Degeimbre (restaurant l’Air du Temps) and Gert De Mangeleer (restaurant Hertog Jan). The Best Chef Awards also awards prizes in different categories, including female chefs, rising stars, and pastry chefs. In this last category, Roger Van Damme reached the first place.
It is not the first time that the Dutch-Belgian pastry chef, also known as “The Godfather of Molecular Pastry” gets awarded for his enchanting dessert creations. In 2007, together with his Belgian pastry team, he got the golden medal at the Coupe du Monde, the world cup for desserts in Lyon, followed by his first prize at the Guardian Pastry Award in 2008. Two years later, he was elected Chef of the Year by the influential French restaurant guide Gault Millau. Also in 2010, Roger started his own TV cooking show Njam on the Belgian national television. As icing on the cake, his restaurant in Antwerp Het Gebaar received a Michelin star at the end of the same year. Being elected as the World’s Best Pastry Chef is a well-deserved reward for his 25 years of pastry dedication.
Now comes the most exciting part… Did you know that Roger Van Damme has been working together with Glacio for more than 10 years, for developing our ice cream creations and menu suggestions? Well, now you do! Therefore, we feel very honored and thankful for getting the continuing recognition and support of The World’s Best Pastry Chef.
Congratulations and thank you, Roger!
