History: A young company with a long history
1972
|
Glacio is a young company. As an independent unit, it only started up on January 1st, 2004. However, it roots lie far back in 1972, when the production facility in Beerse (Belgium) was built as a flexible unit for ice cream products, destined to the door-to-door market. At that time, all products were marketed under the "Pinti" brand.

1983
|
In 1983, Schöller GMBH, based in Nürnberg and largest ice cream company in Germany, took over the plant in Beerse. From that time on, Schöller NV manufactured the legendary Mövenpick quality ice cream, amongst other Schöller brands.
Adapting to the continuous demand for innovative products at reasonable prices, the plant in Beerse was transformed in 1996 to the European Centre of Expertise of the Schöller Holding, focusing on the gastronomy (commercial foodservice) and door-to-door market segments. These market segments typically demand a highly qualitative, largely diversified and innovative product offer. Relatively small production volumes, typical for these markets, forced the Beerse plant to develop highly flexible production tools.
In 2000, the company founded a fully owned daughter company in Japan. Schöller Japan Frozen Foods KK also focused on the local gastronomy market segment and only recently endeavoured its first steps in the Japanese retail market.

2001
|
In 2001, the Schöller Holding, holding a 2% world market share at that time, was taken over by the Nestlé Group. The Beerse plant was included in the deal. Along with the other ex-Schöller companies, Schöller NV in Beerse contributed to reinforce the presence of Nestlé in the growing gastronomy segment, standing for roughly 20-25% of the European ice cream market.

2003
|
| In October 2003, the local management of the Beerse factory took over the plant in a Management Buy Out, under the impulse of Thomas Becker, who had run the production plant since 1983.
The company officially started as Glacio NV as from January 1st, 2004.
Unfortunately, Thomas Becker inexpectedly died in November 2004.
The new management focuses on its core competencies even more: ice cream specialities, designed for the gastronomy and door-to-door market segments. | |
